Frequently Asked Questions

About purchases of additional classes

  • If taking private classes, please email us at support@spanishblackbelt.com to inquire about this.

  • If taking semi-private small group classes, look at all small group classes available for all levels here. If or when you find a class in person that would work for you, please let us know with a simple email. There is no need for you to re-apply.

Typically there is an intermission in between levels, in the case of semi-private small group classes, to let students’ recently acquired knowledge sink in while enjoying a little pause and also to better accommodate expected demand.

This intermission will typically be somewhere between a week and a month long. In the meantime students interested in signing up into the next level may take advantage of the break to let their mind rest (which is good for learning a language) and/or to review the materials covered in the level that they have just finished.

Please also note that the intermission may be longer when there are Holidays in between or when we expect that the group may need some extra weeks to rearrange certain classes for a variety of reasons. Please note that if all students and tutor agree, some re-scheduling of current level classes can be agreed upon if needed as long as their classes all finish prior to the scheduled start of the next level.

Next level classes may not be able to be rescheduled as per students requests when doing so may put two groups of the same level start too close to one another. This would decrease the variety of options that we are able to offer to the overall pool of people interested in studying with us.

If the groups that we have do not work for you, you can consider one of the following options:

  • Doing a full search again now and then every two or three weeks (new groups are added normally up to 3 months ahead of their start date).

    • If your level is intermediate or above (Green Belt or above) consider alternatively joining a group of a slightly higher or lower level.

    • Keep an open mind. Our groups conducted online are of the exact same quality as those conducted in person.

  • Having one-on-one classes (although more expensive, these sessions offer you the best value)

Also, from time to time, we may contact you with offering of new groups. You can request to be removed from these notifications at any time.

If you forecast that you will be missing a few of these classes, please review our make up policy.

If timing is not right just yet, do not worry. We just recommend our students not to let much time go by between two levels since some of the knowledge and fluency can be lost over time if not put in practice with supervised conversations in Spanish.

  • If you are taking group classes, please just be aware that the times and days available for your next level may be different. When you are ready to explore the possibility of signing up again, please feel free to access our list of currently available groups at any time here . New groups will be added from time to time.

  • If you are taking private classes, please just be aware that the times and days available for your next level may be different if your current time slot ends up being secured by someone else in the meantime. You can continue securing your current time slot by submitting your renewal tuition now even if you will resume your sessions at a future date. If this is not possible at this time, SpanishBlackbelt will always do its best to attempt to meet your preferences once you are ready to resume and find you the available time slot that may be most convenient for you.

Whether you are taking group classes or private classes, there will be no need to reapply when ready to resume your classes. Just send us an email at support@spanishblackbelt.com at that time. If the price on the system seems to be higher than what you paid last, please don’t worry. As long as no more than 6 months have elapsed, you may still pay just the same net amount that you paid for your last enrollment as long as you just submitted (1) a testimonial and (2) and end-of-course survey. ;)

You will be pleased to know that all students maintain access to the tutor center for up to 30 days after finishing their last period.

  • After these 30 days, you can register for a new period, paying for it, which allows you to continue with your access at that point, even before starting the new period.

  • If you are not ready to renew within these 30 days, you can alternatively purchase an access extension to the materials here.

It is always best to arrive at class on time.

Private classes may be rescheduled to start a few minutes later if there is no other class already scheduled to start right after yours. If you have not submitted your tuition yet, just email support@spanishblackbelt.com to see if this is possible in your case. If you have already paid and gotten your enrollment confirmation, please contact your tutor directly instead.

If you signed up for small group classes, in respect for other participants, class would need to start on time. First few minutes of each class would be dedicated to doing a little bit of chit chat so that students warm up. After this, which may take between 5 to 10 minutes, you will start reviewing your homework and then engage in the participatory activities that are suggested for each session. Therefore, arriving just a few minutes late, although will make you miss the warm up part of the class, will still allow you to get all the core elements of each session.

Small group classes assembled by SpanishBlackbelt all run for 8 weeks so if having less number of weeks available, enrolling in small group classes may not be a feasible option unless you do not mind missing any of the last sessions. Kep in mind that you may request your tutor to record a class to be missed provided that all othe participants agree.

One-on-one classes can allow you to meet more than once per week. Because you can choose these sessions to be either 2 or 4 hours long, you could complete one level in as little as one week.

If you are willing to consider having one-on-one classes instead of the small group classes that you initially had in mind, we will be happy to reprocess your application so that we can compress all the required sessions in the weeks that you have available.  If for example you wanted initially to meet once per week, we can send you a new proposal meeting twice per week, which will allow to complete all of your hours twice as fast. Please note that one-on-one classes can be twice or three times more expensive than group classes.

With private classes you are required to have a default schedule so that we can guarantee that we will always have time for you on each of the weeks that will have been allocated to you until your expiration date. This means that you are expected to meet regularly with your tutor every week at the same times, days and location.

If your schedule changes every week, you can consider having your classes on a floating schedule which allows you to agree with your tutor on a week-by-week basis on when to have your next session, subject to the times/days that he/she has available in the given week. There may be weeks when you may not be able to find a mutually convenient time/day but a floating schedule would not restrict you with an expiration date as tight as the one you would have with regular classes. Classes will still expire if unused within a reasonable period of time to be defined case by case.

If you can commit to the same time and day for most weeks but expect that you will not be able to make it to some of them, you can just agree with your tutor directly on make up dates for those classes that you will be missing by choosing from what he/she has available on the current or upcoming week. Please make sure that you:

  • Notify your tutor of the need to miss a class with at least a 24-hour notice to avoid losing that class as missed without makeup, and that

  • All of your sessions are completed by the allocated number of weeks.

Specific alternative make up dates cannot be reserved with more than a week in advance. This limitation is in place to ensure that tutors can effectively accommodate other students during those time slots regularly. To facilitate this process, we recommend discussing and agreeing upon each alternative time slot needed one at a time during any immediate prior class. If the desired time slot is still available, you can proceed to reserve it. If not, you can choose from the available slots on your tutor's calendar.

For private classes:

You can schedule make up sessions if you registered for one-on-one classes or for private group instruction, provided that you:
  1. Notify your tutor of this need at least 24 hours before your scheduled session to be missed, and

  1. Complete all of your sessions within the allocated number of weeks.

This means that you may need to agree with your tutor directly on when to have your make up classes by choosing from his/her availability at the time of your request. If, for example, you are meeting once per week, you may need to meet twice per week in any of the prior or remaining weeks left.

If you registered for private group classes, all students in the group would need to agree.

If attending one-on-one classes, an alternative to missing classes when traveling is to have your classes live online at your usual times and days. If you are traveling to a different timezone, class would still need to take place at your regular times and days (usual time zone).

For semi-private classes (group classes assembled by SpanishBlackbelt):

Please, be aware that these are group classes. That means that, even if a student cannot make it to a class, the others will still attend, therefore the class would be considered conducted. However, considering that groups are small in size (only an average of 4 students per class), it is entirely possible to reschedule a class ahead of time, provided that all participants and tutor agree with the change with at least a week in advance, subject to the tutor's availability.

Make up session will need to be scheduled on any of the remaining weeks so that you complete all 8 sessions by the expected end date (8-week term). For example, one option would be to have two sessions instead of one in any of the remaining weeks provided that your tutor is available. Another option might be to agree on extending the length of two sessions to 3 hours each so that you complete all 16 hours by the set end-date.

If a class is missed anyway, the student can review the materials covered on his/her own, with the help of our online student center, accessible by all students 24/7 at no extra cost. He/she can also be briefed by the tutor on what was done in class and what was the homework assigned, if requested. Additionally, the student could decide to purchase an extra private class to cover the material not seen.

Because all of our small group sessions start at different dates, it is normally not feasible to find another group of the same level that is synchronized with yours (covering the same material at the exact same time). Therefore, it is not practical to attend another group of similar level to make up for classes not attended.

If you foresee that you will be missing many sessions, we recommend that you consider instead, either joining an alternative group, or having private Spanish instruction, which, although more expensive, provides you with more schedule flexibility.

If you will not be able to attend the first session of a specific group, please email us at support@SpanishBlackbelt.com. We may be able to reschedule the start of the group to accommodate your needs provided that no other students have signed up for your group just yet.

If upon renewal you feel that you are not ready for the next level and want to repeat the same one you just finished to consolidate your progress, you can do it!

  • If yours was a semi-private small group class, you may need to switch to a group meeting at another time/day/location, though. You can look at all small group classes for all levels here. When you find a class that would work for you, please let us know with a simple email. There is no need for you to re-apply.

  • If yours was a private class, you can continue your classes on the same date, time, location and tutor you had before. Just let your tutor know of your level and pace preferences when you start this new term.

If you think the the prior level that you signed up before was a good review but have now regained your fluency skills to a point that you believe the following level may still be too easy, or if you took some time off SpanishBlackbelt and studied abroad for a while on the meantime, you may skip levels.

  • If you are thinking of having private classes, remember that the level can be adjusted once you start meeting with your tutor and anytime thereafter. Please keep in mind that having seen material previously is not a sufficient reason to skip working on this content if not being able to use it verbally yet.

  • If you are thinking instead of joining one of our semi-private small groups, consider doing the online exemption test for the level prior to the one you would like to join. You can find these assessments on our levels page here . For your reference, all small group classes for the different levels currently scheduled can be found here . Just email the alternative group of your preference. There will be no need to re-apply. Just secure your spot for any of these classes by submitting your tuition and let us know via email which group you will be joining. If your new level ends up too easy or too difficult, we could transfer you to an alternative class free of charge.

Your full tuition needs to be received at least 5 business days prior to the start of your classes. Please note however that our email quote is valid for 5 business days only and that because of our limited offering and an excess of demand for our services, we are unable to hold any spots until tuition is received in full.

If you are ready to submit your tuition past the next 5 business days, please refer to our site to access the current list price for:

Please be aware that our time slots may become unavailable at any time between when you were accepted and when you submit your tuition. If this happens, you could consider choosing another time slot available, waiting for the next available time slot, or getting a full refund.

To ensure continuity and minimum tangible results, the minimum payment currently accepted to secure a spot is for one level of Spanish proficiency (16 hours), out of 10 levels that we offer.

Although we do not provide students with financial aid directly, or with options to make installment payments, you can apply for Paypal Pay Later. Just select the second option: β€œPay online via Paypal - Pay Later - Credit/Debit card” on our Payment Center, enter your amount to be paid and select β€œPay Later”. Choose between Pay in 4 installments or Apply for Paypal Credit.

If needed, consider also funding your classes through credit card debt. All major credit cards are accepted at this time.

  • If you were given a quote for multiple levels, please note that an alternative is to purchase a smaller number of levels.

  • If you applied for one-on-one classes but the price looks too high for you at this time, consider instead joining one of our semi-private small group classes.

Because of our limited offering and high demand for our services, we are unable to hold any spots until tuition for at least 1 level is received in full.

If more convenient, you can however wait to pay until up to 7 days prior to the start of a class. Please note that the quote that you have been given is valid for 5 days only and that the offer to get any prompt payment discount will be voided.

One-on-one and private classes:

  • After these 5 days elapse, please refer to our site to access the current list price for one-on-one or private group instruction.

  • Please be aware that our time slots may become unavailable at any time between when you were accepted and when you submit your tuition. If this happens, you could consider choosing another time slot available, waiting for the next available time slot, or getting a full refund.

Small Groups:

  • After these 5 days elapse, please refer to our site to access the current list price for your group. Please be aware that our prices for a small group may increase significantly as we get close to its  start date. Because of this reason, we hope that you can register soon to benefit from the lowest possible fares. :)

  • Please be aware too that our groups are very small in size (an average of 4 students only), a feature that although would allow our students to practice extensively in class, also may cause the groups to get filled fairly quickly. Once this happens we will not be able to accept any more students to enroll even if the student was accepted previously. If this happens, you could consider joining another available group.

When convenient to enroll and secure your spot, please submit your corresponding tuition here . If preferred, you can email us back right before submitting your tuition to make sure the offered time slot is still available.

Your enrollment information email will be sent within 2 business days after your tuition or credit card information is received.

It is great if your employer will be paying for your classes. Please note that we cannot unfortunately hold any spots until tuition is received. This policy cannot be bent because it allows us to keep our tutors working and making a living instead of waiting idle.

To speed up the process, however, we will be happy to provide you with any document that you may be required to present to your employer, such as an invoice or a W9. Just let us know exactly what we need to provide you by sending us your request to support@spanishblackbelt.com .

If your employer will take too much time to process your request so that you could potentially lose your spot or miss the start date of your classes, you can consider paying for the classes yourself and then requesting reimbursement from them. You can fund your classes while this takes place with any major credit card, or by applying for financing through Paypal, the financial institution we work with. You can learn more about this option here .

If it is not possible for you to fund the classes in the meantime, it is possible that your time slots may still be available when the funds are finally received. If so, they will be assigned to you. If not available any more, you will be offered to choose from all schedule options available at that time.

To secure a spot in a group, tuition in full will need to be received. Prorated amounts unfortunately cannot be accepted.

Although we do not recommend missing sessions, you can certainly do so need be. Because all our our students have access to all of the materials covered in class within our online student center free of extra charge, you can review these materials on your own if missing a class. Because groups are very small in size, an average of 4 students per class, it is many times possible for all to agree on scheduling a makeup session for all sessions except the first one. All of you, your peers and your tutor, will need to agree in any of the prior classes though. As ann alternative, you may request yout tutor to record the class if meeting online, which will be possible if all students attending agree on being recorded.

For your complete reference, you can read our make up policy in detail here.

Each participant can submit his/her individual payment or one can submit the total amount due on behalf of the whole private group. We will know who the payment belongs to because when you pay you will enter an email address that will be matched with one of the emails you provided us when you applied.

There is also no need for each participant to submit an individual application if their names and emails were provided on the application you submitted on behalf of the group. Just feel free to share with all participants the amount that each one owes and the link  where they can submit their payment to.

We will send you your enrollment confirmation as soon as your check is received. If you have not received this confirmation, it may mean that we still may have not received your check just yet. If some time has passed and your organization is supposed to send the funds, you may want to double check with them to make sure that they have sent us their check already. If this is the case, please contact us right away at support@spanishblackbelt.com

Even though list prices may have gone up, as seen on our site, we will be happy to honor the price quoted for a total of 5 business days counted from the date when we sent you our acceptance email. In addition, if submitting your tuition by this deadline, you can still deduct the 5%.

You can submit your net tuition (amount detailed on our acceptance email) by entering it through our online payment center.

Your enrollment confirmation email will be sent within 48 hours after your tuition is received.

Even though list prices may have gone up, as seen on our site, we will be happy to honor the price quoted for a total of 5 business days counted from the date when we sent you our acceptance email. In addition, if submitting your tuition by this deadline, you can still deduct the 5%.

Your enrollment confirmation email will be sent within 48 hours after your tuition is received.

Please note though that the time slot offered may become unavailable within this period if locked by another student through his payment. It is therefore important to submit your tuition as early as you can to ensure that the exact time slot we offered can end up being granted to you.

As an alternative to paying now or within the time frames suggested, you can consider applying for financing through Paypal, our online payments provider. When submitting your tuition through our online payment center you can select the option "Pay Later" that Paypal offers (second option on the Payment Center page). If you qualify, they can finance your classes so that you can pay them later.

If needed, consider also funding your classes through credit card debt. All major credit cards are accepted at this time.

If you applied for small group classes and you saw a much lower price on our site, it may well be that on our site you saw our prices for private groups (those formed with friends and/or family members) as opposed to those groups that our language school has arranged and that you, and up to three other people you may not yet know, can join.

Notice also that, as it can be found on our search for groups page, prices for each specific small group may be different from one another based on a demand-based pricing algorithm.

Furthermore, please note that the prices listed on our site for group classes may be prices per hour, and that our acceptance email may be giving you the total cost for one full level of instruction, that is, for a total of 16 hours of instruction (8 sessions of 2 hours each).

If the price quoted on acceptance email is different from the price listed on our site for the same format, day and time, you should pay the lower price provided that no more than 5 days have elapsed since the time we sent your acceptance email.

If more time has passed, you will be required to pay the current amount listed on our site .

You can submit your net tuition by entering it through our online payment center .

Your enrollment confirmation email will be sent within 48 hours after your tuition is received.

Yes! You can certainly do this in the case of one-on-one classes, or private self-assembled groups, subject to availability.

If halfway you need to switch to a more expensive or cheaper schedule alternative, we will be happy to calculate the delta amount that we would need to refund you, or that you would need to submit to us.

If at any given point we are not able to adjust to your schedule needs, we will be happy to issue you a partial refund for the number of hours not yet considered used. An hour would be considered used if you attended the class, or if you missed it without giving us at least a 24-hour notice. There may be a $49 cancellation fee if cancelling after having attended 3 or more classes.

The total price for private classes for up to 2 students is the same. In other words, the second student can study for free if part of the same class, or both can split the cost.

You can indeed buy less levels if you initially were intending on purchasing more than one level upfront but you later on changed your mind. Just let us know by replying to our acceptance email.

No problem. To enroll, you will just need to submit the amount per person that corresponds to the size that your group now has.

You can find the price per student for groups of different sizes here.

Our pricing structure is intricately tied to the premium quality of education and personalized approach that we offer in our classes. We are committed to providing top-notch instructors, tailored learning materials, and a superior learning experience, all of which contribute to the value we provide to our students.

Maintaining the quality of our classes and ensuring the satisfaction of our students are our top priorities. While we understand the importance of competitive pricing, we believe that the unique features and benefits of our premium classes justify the current pricing.

We appreciate your understanding and continued interest in our Spanish language programs. If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us. We are here to assist you in any way we can.

To secure your spot you will need submit your net tuition amount, as listed on our acceptance email, by entering it through our online payment center and following the instructions provided until you get the receipt on your screen.

Your enrollment confirmation email will be sent within 2 business days after your tuition is received.

Please make sure to submit your tuition amount in full at least 5 business days prior to the start of your classes. Please act promptly. Because of the private or semi-private nature of our classes, time slots can become unavailable fairly quickly.
