Semana Santa, Honduras

La Semana Santa es una fecha muy especial en casi todos los países del mundo. En Latinoamérica, las celebraciones de Semana Santa son de las más atractivas pero además llenas de fervor religioso y de actividades que se extienden durante toda la semana. Uno de los países que más vive la Semana Santa y que está lleno de actividades religiosas es Honduras.

La Semana Santa inicia el domingo de Ramos y concluye el Domingo de Resurrección. Su fecha exacta de celebración varía cada año, pero por lo general se desarrolla en los meses de Marzo o Abril. Durante toda la semana, los fieles realizan un sinnúmero de muestras de religiosidad en donde se destacan las representaciones de la Pasión y las famosas procesiones.

Tradiciones de la Semana Santa en Honduras

La fe hoy y siempre continúa siendo relevante en las celebraciones de Semana Santa en Honduras pues la gran mayoría de la población sigue manteniendo tanto su fe así como sus costumbres las cuales han ido pasando de generación en generación. La mayoría de las ceremonias religiosas que se realizan durante la Semana Santa son aprovechadas para ayudar a los más necesitados, organizando eventos, mostrando películas propias de la época e incluso realizando obras de teatro conmemorativo.

Procesiones

Estas actividades siempre son concurridas y son las favoritas de la Semana Santa en Honduras. Los actos litúrgicos se llevan a cabo en la Parroquia El Calvario y en la Catedral Metropolitana así como en otras parroquias alrededor de todo el país.  Durante los últimos 4 días de la Semana Santa se realizan varias manifestaciones como La Procesión del Silencio, el Último Viacrucis y Las Carreritas de San Juan, y el Domingo de Ramos, donde se lleva a cabo la famosa procesión de las Palmas.

Alfombras de Semana Santa

Una de las actividades que se ha ido convirtiendo en una de las tradiciones más importantes de la Semana Santa en Honduras es la fabricación de Alfombras de Aserrín. Las alfombras están cargadas de matices de colores y expresiones del fervor de la Semana Santa. Se colocan el Viernes Santo para que las personas puedan apreciarlas durante el Sábado de Gloria.

Una de las ciudades donde se realizan más Alfombras de Aserrín es Comayagua, ya que disponen de alrededor de 50 tapetes los cuales llegan a cubrir las principales calles de la ciudad recordando de esta forma el sacrificio que hizo Jesús al morir por nosotros en la cruz y también el milagro de la Resurrección.

La Gastronomía Hondureña en Semana Santa

Si bien es cierto que en una parte importante de la Semana Santa se debe de hacer ayuno, en los momentos en que no se hace, Honduras ofrece una gran variedad de opciones culinarias que son sencillamente deliciosas. Como ejemplos podemos nombrar el Chilate, los mariscos y las frutas endulzadas, además de todas las frutas tradicionales como coyoles, mangos y ciruelas las cuales se mezclan con dulce de panela, ¡sencillamente deliciosas!

Si quieres viajar a un país donde puedas pasar la Semana Santa y vivir no sólo el fervor religioso sino también las tradiciones propias del país, sin duda alguna Honduras es una excelente opción.

The Holly Week in Honduras

The Holy Week is a very special date in almost every country in the world. In Latin America, the Holy Week celebrations are the most attractive but also full of religious fervor and activities that extend throughout the week. One of the countries that lives the Holy Week the most and that is full of religious activities is Honduras.

The Holy Week begins on Palm Sunday and ends on Easter Sunday. Its exact date of celebration varies each year, but it usually takes place in the months of March or April. Throughout the week, the faithful carry out countless religious displays where the representations of the Passion and the famous processions stand out.

Traditions of the Holy Week in Honduras

Faith today and always continues to be relevant in the celebrations of the Holy Week in Honduras as the vast majority of the population continues to maintain both their faith and their customs, which have been passed from generation to generation. Most of the religious ceremonies that take place during the Holy Week are used to help those most in need, organizing events, showing films of the time of Christ and even performing commemorative plays.

Processions

These activities are always busy and are the favorites of the Holy Week in Honduras. Liturgical acts are held at El Calvario Parish and the Metropolitan Cathedral as well as in other parishes around the country. During the last 4 days of the Holy Week there are several manifestations such as The Procession of Silence, the Last Way of the Cross and Las Carreritas de San Juan, and Palm Sunday, when the famous Palmas procession takes place.

Holy Week Carpets

One of the activities that has become one of the most important traditions of the Holy Week in Honduras is the manufacture of Sawdust Carpets. The rugs are loaded with shades of colors and expressions of the fervor of the Holy Week. They are placed on Good Friday so that people can appreciate them during the Saturday of Glory.

One of the cities where more Sawdust Rugs are made is Comayagua, since they have around 50 rugs which cover the main streets of the city, thus remembering the sacrifice that Jesus made when he died for us on the cross and also the miracle of the Resurrection.

Honduran Gastronomy in Holy Week

While it is true that fasting is required over an important part of Holy Week, at times when it is not required, Honduras offers a wide variety of culinary options that are simply delicious. As examples we can name the Chilate, the seafood and the sweetened fruits, in addition to all the traditional fruits such as coyoles, mangoes and plums which are mixed with panela sweet, simply delicious!

If you want to travel to a country where you can spend the Holy Week and experience not only the religious fervor but also the country's own traditions, without a doubt Honduras is an excellent option.
